19th of January, community representatives and supporters held a press conference where community representatives detail plans to take over Rondebosch Commons.
What are we doing? On the 27th of January, early in the morning, we will wake up and walk. We will walk very far. From our communities in Mitchell’s Plain, in Khayelitsha, in Bishop Lavis, in Manenberg, and many others, we will walk to Athlone Stadium. From there, at about 2pm, we will march together to Rondebosch Common.
From that evening, the 27th, until the 29th of January, our communities and supporters from all over Cape Town, will take back Rondebosch Commons from the rich dog walkers to hold a People’s Land! Housing! and Jobs! Summit. We will discuss our struggles, talk about alternative ways we can live and decide on actions that will take us forward in our struggle. This will be the first of many actions to come. (copy submitted)

At the time of writing, the Cobras with 3 matches, including 2 home games, to play in the 4-day series, looks set to retain the Supersport trophy they won last year. In what has at times been a tough year with all the national call-ups, the consistency of the senior players, Justin Ontong, Dane Vilas and Rory Kleinveldt, among others, have been both pleasing and refreshing. The 4 day competition reaches its climax at the end of February.

From a cricket connoisseur point of view, this was another shambles for test cricket. Despite the “so-called” pundits hailing world test cricket at the moment healthy, it is far from the truth. A batsman who takes himself serious would in my opinion never play shots like some of the Sri Lankan did or SA’s batsmen against Australia.
Test cricket is supposed to be test of ability, skill and temperament over 5 days, yet what do we see? Recall the first session on the fourth day when Samaweera and Matthews were batting for an entire session, did that no make for compelling viewing either live and or via television. Now suddenly the bowlers had to come up with a plan, in other words “worked out’ the batsmen, nurture a new skill to remove the batsmen, that’s a challenge, that’s a test, not players chasing after wide deliveries and or failing to hit a boundary in an over, suddenly loses patience and play a ridiculous shot.
No, no, the current crop of test players need to catch up and quickly too. If test cricket is going to be played at this rate, I believe this format of cricket is in trouble of surviving. For the last 18 months or so, test matches around the world have lasted on average of 3 and half days. Against a weak Australian team, with no world class players, India with a start studded lineup is unable to play for 5 days. Like a colleague of me would often remark, now really?
If one were to remove Kallis, Pointing, Sangkarra, Tendulkar and one or two world performers, who is left worthwhile to go and watch. Is one surprise when leading players prefer the 20/20?

In 1963 a little-known quartet from Liverpool turned the world of music and fashion on its head, creating a cultural revolution that left a lasting legacy still admired and respected 50 years on. Paying tribute to the mania caused by mop-haired John, Paul, George and Ringo, the show All You Need Is Love will transport audiences back to the unforgettable sound of The Beatles and the ’swinging’ 60’s from Friday, 3 February to Saturday, 17 March at the GrandWest Roxy Revue Bar, Wednesday through to Saturday.
The group shook their generation, threatening conservatism to its core and unleashing beatle-mania. Today they are regarded as the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed band. Setting the tone for the evening, Director Cedric Vandenschrik uses original footage to recreate the public hysteria of the time, such as performances on the Ed Sullivan show and the famous meeting with Bob Dylan. Fans can expect to hear all the band’s best loved hits such as Help, Lucy in the sky with diamonds, I wanna hold your Hand, Ticket to Ride, Sgt Peppers, Hey Jude, Back in the USSR, Yellow Submarine and many more.
Taking the audience on this Magical Mystery Tour are vocalist and guitarist Cedric Vandenschrik, vocalist Chad Zerf, guitarist Aldert du Toit, drummer Adam Coolsaet, bassist Rob Nel and keyboardist Tracy Johannes. Adding a pretty touch and a different interpretation to the music will be Candice Malander-Thorne.
